GW Cities of Death building in the snow
#1
So this year I've decided to get my butt into gear and work on some terrain. I've got probably an 8'x4' table's worth of city stuff I've accumulated over the last few years and now I've finally acquired time, a back garden, a jigsaw and 3mm MDF, I've started to do something with it all. They're not scratch-built (I know that's the norm here) but they don't look half bad once done. There'll be more scratch-built stuff in the future, honest Wink

I've built up a number of ruins, based them all up with a mix of cheap poster paint and sand/gravel, and primed them with Army Painter black and basecoated with AP/Bolt Action Feldgrau.

At the basecoat stage:

After 3 or 4 lots of drybrushing (lightening shades of grey up to white):

With snow, some of the upcoming stuff in the background:

And with some other stuff I've re-worked from earlier sets of terrain to fit in with the new theme:

I'm currently working on some 30k stuff (Mechanicum) and they're going to be based up to fit, as are my wife's Sisters of Battle

Very nice snow technique - they look very nice together as a set.
I'd personally like to see a little more color difference on your large corner piece. At first glance I thought it wasn't painted at all. Your dry brushing looks good but maybe you also need a black wash to accent the shadow areas?

I agree. Either add details in a different colour or make it look metallic.

Painted by "simply undercoating black then heavy drybrushing Macharius Orange followed by Boltgun Metal (or whatever the new names are...) This way you can get great looking terrain painted rapidly and join the fight against plain grey plastic scenery!!"

"Continuing my painting war against basic grey plastic scenery, some more stuff has been painted this festive season, here is my latest finished article, some stone ruins, from Pegasus Hobbies, one half of the Gothic Ruins set. The set comprises of enough pieces to make two ruined corners of a building. They are a great alternative to the City of Death GW ruins and add a little more bulk to ruins."
