Was thinking something like that and maybe some corrugated metal sheets. Now to go get some Balsa wood.

Popsicle sticks, coffee stirrers, tongue depressors, skewers and other random pieces of wood from dollar stores will work as well. I even used cedar shingles for years - they are easy to split, have great wood texture, and are relatively soft.

Another thing you can try in ruins is to add pieces of broken wood sticking out of the edges to represent beams, studs, joists, et. Matchsticks can work well for this. Sharpen one end, then break the other, and stick the sharp end in with a little glue.

Perfect idea. Also if needed you can put an open framed area at the top of the door where a window would have been above the door.
